About Me

Hiring and Communicating with a Home Cleaning Service

Thanks for stopping by my website. My name is Annabelle Collins. My husband and I live in a large house with our two teenage children. We’re fortunate in that we’re able to have a cleaning service come and clean on a weekly basis. In the past, I found that it was difficult for me to exert myself when it came to hiring and communicating with our cleaning service. I’ve never been very authoritative, and that shone through in a not good way. I wanted things to be done in a certain way, but found it difficult to ask for what I wanted. I have come to realize that in order for the service to do the job I want to be done, I have to ask for it to happen. I doubt that I’m alone in the fact that this is difficult, and want to share my experience and growth.

3 Ways To Treat Your Backyard For Mosquitoes This Summer So You Can Enjoy Your Outdoor Space

by Vicki Burns

The summer season is in full swing and so are the backyard activities and get-togethers. Along with spending more time in your backyard often comes the pesky bite of mosquitoes. It can be common to get bit by a mosquito when you go outside at dusk when they are commonly active, but if you get bothered by mosquitoes during the heat of the day you know you really have a problem. Here are some steps you can take to reduce and eliminate their numbers, whether you have a small or larger mosquito problem.

Manage Your Yard's Standing Water

One of the first things you can do to prevent mosquitoes is to eliminate standing water in your yard, which creates a breeding ground for them. Dump out and turn over any buckets, wheelbarrows, troughs and anything that collects even the smallest amount of water. This includes yard ornaments and bird baths that collect water or rainwater. Check and clean out your roof gutters for any clogs in them that collect water, as this can be a problem.

If you have any decorative ponds or landscaping areas that hold water, you can treat them with biscuit-shaped bar you toss into the water and it slowly releases a chemical to control mosquito larvae over a period of time.

Use Natural Treatments

Garlic gives off an odor that is a strong repellent of mosquitoes and you can use it safely in your yard to get rid of mosquitoes without harming other beneficial insects, your pets, or family. You can purchase a garlic-infused liquid made from garlic cloves, and spray it over your entire yard and vegetation, which kills any adult mosquitoes it comes into contact with. You can also mix this garlic liquid with some cooking oil and spray it over any ornamental ponds or other standing water to smother any existing larvae and prevent further from breeding in the water.

Don't worry about the smell of this treatment being an issue to your enjoying your backyard. The odor of garlic will dissipate shortly after spraying it, but to mosquitoes it will be detectable for many weeks to repel them, as they have a strong sense of smell.

Hire a Professional Treatment

You can also hire a professional mosquito control service to spray and treat your entire yard to kill adult mosquitoes and any larvae. Talk to a mosquito professional about monthly treatments through the mosquito season to reduce their numbers in your yard. Most services offer free treatments in-between treatments if you find any mosquitoes in your yard.
